Quite simply put, it is not a methodology as we are made to believe, but rather it is having a mindset (a way of thinking) that is based on the agile values and principles. The key word here is mindset – we can all “do” agile (as we see some organisations where teams are doing agile and often than not, they don’t understand why; and if their methods fail, then “agile” gets blamed), but rather we need to “be agile”.
“Being agile” isn’t simply a matter of using particular tools, methods, ceremonies, following scrum, XP, Kanban etc.. but it is have the right mindset to know and practice the agile values and principles (we’ll discuss these in later blogs). That is why if you truly want to know what Agile is, then understand how you need to change your mind according to its values and principles, the methodology is irrelevant – get your head in the right space !!!
